A Success Story to Warm Their Heart

The fifth annual Clark Public Utilities ‘Race for Warmth’ was the largest and most successful yet, raising more than $60,000 for Operation Warm Heart – the donor-funded program that helps community members in financial crisis who may not qualify for other payment assistance.

This year, 1,479 community members walked or ran in the timed 5k or 10k events. Every dollar of registration fees, along with donations, will assist local families in financial crisis cover home heating expenses.

“Every year the event has grown in both participation and funds raised,” said Maxie Mayer, Clark Public Utilities Marketing and Events Specialist. “The generosity of our Clark County community, including our steadfast business partners who help to cover all hard costs of the event, never ceases to amaze us here at the utility.”

Beginning five years ago with 500 participants, the Race for Warmth has grown every year with increased community support and participation from the area’s local runners. This year included 150 more registrants and at least an additional $8,000 in donations over 2018. Burgerville restaurants across Clark County collected nearly $20,000 in donations, almost double last year’s total.

Since its creation in 1985, more than 11,000 customers have received nearly $2.4 million in grants from Operation Warm Heart—generously provided by Clark Public Utilities customers, employees and local businesses. Donations can be made year-round at any Clark Public Utilities location, online at https://myaccount.clarkpublicutilities.com/owh or by calling 360-992-3000.
