Over a two-day period in mid-April, over 11,000 people will gather at Salmon Creek Park/Klineline Pond in Vancouver, WA where kids can experience fishing, playing outside, and learning about the natural environment and water safety.
Klineline Kids Fishing gives children the opportunity to experience the thrill of catching a fish and educational sessions help children learn more about fishing, water safety and the outdoors. This event also puts children in close connection to our Counties First Responders. Firefighters, police, game wardens, and medics are present and available to visit with the kids. Children also make a one-to-one connection with local anglers who volunteer to mentor them in fishing.
During the upcoming 2018 Event, Friday, April 13th will be reserved for special needs kids and adults to enjoy the fishing experience; while Saturday, April 14th, is set for kids ages 5 to 14. Registration for the event is open now through April 1st. For a $5 registration fee the child gets a t-shirt and a fishing rod and reel all geared-up and ready to go. Kids fish at assigned times throughout the day. Prizes are awarded for the largest and smallest fish caught in each time slot. Drawings are announced throughout both days for goodie bags, tackle boxes and bicycles.
In addition to the fishing experience, the park has covered tents with different activities and information for the entire community. In past years, kids could walk from booth to booth and take part in building small wooden projects, get their faces painted, draw and cut out paper fish, visit educational environmental kiosks, try their hand at flinging a few arrows in an archery clinic, get some free ice cream or hot chocolate, and pet therapy llamas.
“We think our fishing event impacts the lives of the children we serve. We see it in their happy faces; we hear from children and parents that return a second year. We see success in increased numbers of children that participate each year, and in the people who repeatedly volunteer and contribute in some way to make this community event a success.”
Klineline Kids Fishing Events will take place on Friday and Saturday, April 13th and 14th, 2018 at Salmon Creek Park/Klineline Pond (1112 NE 117th Street, Vancouver, WA). For more information, including registration, visit Klineline Kids Fishing online.
