While summer fun may be coming to an end, that just means fall fun is about to begin! If you have kids, that translates into SOCCER SEASON!
Check out the newly redesigned Strikers Youth League at Salmon Creek Indoor Arena, it has been completely revamped to give players a great basis for moving onto a club team.
This is an 8-week program that combines practices with actual game play. The first two weeks will be 50 minutes of drills and games designed to provide a base of knowledge for players to build on. The following 6 weeks will combine 15 minutes of skills activity with actual game play. Coaches will be working on a different skill each week and may stop game play to reinforce these skills. The list of weekly skills can be found on their website.
“I am very excited about the curriculum,” says Beverly Estes, from Salmon Creek Indoor Arena Youth Soccer. “I have looked at the guidelines that US Youth Soccer puts out each year and created a series of weekly skills that will coincide with their recommendations. We are using small sided games to allow the kids many touches on the ball and reinforce the skills they are learning. Our coaches will also be working with the kids in mid game for the same reason. Game play might be stopped if they see that many of the kids are struggling with the same thing to offer a brief group lesson or just reposition them.”
Small sided play allows young players to touch the ball more often, to learn how to make quick game decisions, and the ability to play both offensive and defensive positions. It’s a fun environment that focuses on the players.
The new curriculum offers two Saturdays with full practices and 6 weeks with a combination of practice and game play. Classes start September 9 to October 28, 2017. For more information, please visit Strikers Salmon Creek Indoor Youth League online or call Beverly at 360-571-7628.
