Although Washington has a 50% recycling rate, the average Washington resident produces over 7 pounds of trash every day. That’s twice the national average!

Accept the challenge to reduce your waste at Waste Busters, a free, web-based, Clark County Green Neighbors event for residents to learn how to live less wasteful lifestyles.

Take a pledge to fight litter, replace plastic, or waste no food for 3 weeks (March 10 – 30), join the blog, participate in events and bonus challenges, and earn points. Everyone with 500+ points has a chance to win great prizes from solar phone chargers to an excursion on the Portland Spirit! Sign up by March 11 to participate!

“You’ll take one of three pledges, create an account, read resources on waste issues, participate in activities, and post on the blog about your waste-busting progress to earn points. Earn 500+ points for a chance to win one of 10+ prizes from solar-powered phone chargers to an excursion on the Portland Spirit!

Our challenges are designed to give you a variety of options and challenge levels. We’ve kept the general criteria simple, but you can adjust it to be as challenging as you desire. Whether you’re just starting to think about waste issues or you’ve been living a highly-conscious lifestyle already, there is always room for improvement. We hope that your challenge will become a part of your lifestyle and that you’ll be inspired to continue moving towards less wasteful, more environmentally-sustainable practices.” ~Clark County Green Neighbors

The 2018 Pledges are…

1. Fight Litter – keep a litter bag in your vehicle and never litter

2. Replace Plastic – eliminate a plastic material from your lifestyle with alternative solutions

3. Waste No Food – do not throw away or compost any edible food

There will be a WasteBusters kick off event at the Vancouver Community Library on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 2:00 pm with featured speaker Minna Yoo, Founder and CEO of Love Bottle. Love Bottle is one of the first reusable glass water bottles 100% made in USA, featuring designs by Portland artists. These bottles are on a mission to fight plastic pollution. Every WasteBusters participant will get a free door prize and enter a raffle for your very own Love Bottle. Plus you’ll receive 100 bonus points for attending the event!
